This is the Website for Enno Ladwigs documentary film "Cycle of Change - Peking, mein altes Zuhause", a film about the fast and drastic changes in Beijing. Preparing for next years Olympic Games, Beijing is being transformed and aspires to become a modern world metropole.
Having lived in Beijing from 1990-1993, the director returns to the city in 2006 and finds the city transformed to the degree that makes it difficult to recognize it again. Yet still, in many ways he still feels at home, but wonders how the locals relate to the drastic changes. In the course to find out, he talks to different people; amongst them a taxidriver, current- and ex-inhabitants of hutongs as well as a hutong-deconstuctionist and a hutong conservation-activist.
Their views on the recent changes are to be found in the documentary and give a unique picture of todays Beijing.

I wish Beijing all the best for the weeks to come. Let´s hope the Olympics help to increase the understanding between different countries. From my point of view, a lot of the current coverage about Beijing and China builds up an image of this country, which often does not portray the true situation. Yes, there are a lot of problems here, and a lot of things that should need change. But things are changing - if only slowly - towards the right direction. China needs its time, but China will be better. And in countless ways, already today, it is a great country. Let´s only hope the days to come will be peaceful.
